Tzolkin Trecena Notes – 1 Eagle (Men)
Day 235 of the 260 Day Tzolkin – 25 Kin Remaining
Gregorian Date: July 26, 2024
Year Bearer: 12 Earth (Caban)
Trecenas are thirteen-day periods in the Tzolkin. Each Trecena starts with the Number 1, but with a different Day Glyph. As a wave of the Thirteen Heavens, the underlying energy is governed by the First Day Glyph of the Trecena and influences all thirteen successive Day Glyphs. Being aware of the predominant energy of the First Day of the Trecena, we can align our intentions with that energy and allow our goals to manifest.
This Trecena starts with 1 Men (Eagle): Free Spirited, Ambitious, Self Confident, Bringer of Faith and Knowledge, Global Visionary.
According to Maya legend, the sun was an Eagle and one of the most powerful day signs. In Mesoamerican myth, everything has two aspects or faces, so the Eagle carries the symbolism of the moon as well as the sun. On the one hand, a young moon goddess represents budding and flowering, and on the other hand, an old moon goddess represents ancient wisdom. The Yucatec word “Men” means “the wise one.” This lunar goddess was also called Eagle Woman as she wore a headdress of eagle feathers. According to Kenneth Johnson in Jaguar Wisdom, “Thus sun and moon, male and female, combine in one archetype: When the sun rises, he is ‘soaring eagle’; when the sun sets, he is ‘falling eagle’. The moon wears the sun in her hair. The Eagle is the sign of the spiritual warrior, whose heart is pure like the heart of the sun; but underneath the bright and shining glory of the daytime sun lies an older, subtler archetype of quiet wisdom: First Mother, the moon, the crone of wisdom.”
Ian Lungold: “A good day to ascend to a larger perspective.”
Carlos Barrios in Book of Destiny describes Men (Eagle) as follows: “It is liberty, the messenger, treasure, luck, and money. It also means fortune. It is a special day on which to dedicate the Xukulem Chuwach Ri Qajaw – Mayan ceremony to ask for good luck. This sign brings good relationships… It is a special day for increasing intuition and vision… The energy of this sign breaks with the status quo and can find a solution to anything. Tz’ikin (Kaqchikel /Yucatec Men) brings broad vision, unlimited by time or space. It is the panoramic, acute vision of the eagle.”
Another representation of the Trecena is that of a creative wave beginning at 1 and ending at 13, with the numbers 6, 7 and 8 representing the crest of the wave. The crest could be interpreted as a strong influential energy, although the underlying influence on the Trecena would still rest in the beginning. In this Trecena, the crest falls on 6 Ahau (Sun/Flower/Light Lord), 7 Imix (Crocodile), and 8 Ik (Wind). Ahau represents spiritual enlightenment in a higher dimension. Imix represents the primal basic instincts of existence on the material-physical-earthly third dimensional plane. Ik represents the catalyst for communication and thus change on both levels. This strong combination of spiritual and material change encourages us to rise to higher levels of consciousness in order to solve the problems created in our third dimensional existence.
As we journey through each day of this Trecena:
